Building a sister city bridge between Mukilteo and Gwacheon, South Korea.

Jason is leading Mukilteo's effort to form a sister city relationship with Gwacheon, South Korea, including a visit to Gwacheon City Council in September 2025.

Mukilteo has explored a sister city partnership since 2022. In 2025, Jason helped move it from idea to signed letter of intent.

A visit on his own dime

On September 1, 2025, Jason and then Council President Tom Jordal met with Gwacheon's leadership during personal trips to South Korea, not at city expense. Jason was introduced to Gwacheon through a friend in Tacoma and helped set up a call between the two cities' leaders.

Korean media covered the visit as a bridge between the two councils.

What a partnership could bring

Jason's goals include drawing Korean visitors to Mukilteo as a base for Seattle trips, building economic ties and hosting cultural events where residents can learn more about their neighbors. Student exchanges are a longer term possibility.

On October 20, 2025, the city signed a letter of intent with Gwacheon. A formal memorandum of understanding still requires council approval.
