Jason Moon unanimously elected Mukilteo City Council President.

Jason was unanimously elected Council President for 2026, believed to be the first Korean American to lead a city council in Washington State.

On January 5, 2026, the Mukilteo City Council unanimously elected Jason as Council President and Richard Emery as Vice President.

A historic first

To his knowledge, Jason is the first Korean American to serve as a city council president in Snohomish County and in Washington State. He joined the council in 2022 as Mukilteo's first Korean American councilmember, won a full term in 2023 and served as Vice President in 2025.

Korean media across the region and in Korea covered the news, and the Council of Korean Americans highlighted it as a milestone year.

Carrying a community's voice

Jason said he was honored to be chosen unanimously by his colleagues and committed to carrying the community's voice to the city, county and state. He credited the sacrifices of his parents' generation and first generation immigrants for making the moment possible.
