Mukilteo and Snohomish County recognize Korean American Day.

Jason led the effort to have Mukilteo and Snohomish County formally recognize January 13 as Korean American Day.

Korean American Day marks the arrival of the first Korean immigrants to the United States in 1903. In January 2025, Jason helped bring that history into Mukilteo City Hall and the Snohomish County Council chambers.

Honoring a community's story

Members of the Korean community joined Mayor Joe Marine, Police Chief Andy Illyn and councilmembers for the reading of a city proclamation declaring January 13 as Korean American Day in Mukilteo.

Jason also secured a matching resolution at the Snohomish County level, recognizing the Korean Americans who live and work across the county.

Why it matters

For Jason, recognition is a starting point. Showing residents that their history is seen at City Hall makes it easier for them to show up, speak up and take part in local decisions.
